It is January after all and, if any excesses have been undertaken over the Christmas and New Year period, then a ton of vegetables does wonders! Both in terms of digging them up in the garden (a bit of physical exercise) and in terms of eating them (a massive nutrition boost).
This is an old book – formal details are: First Steps in Vegetarian Cooking by Kathy Silk. Published by The Vegetarian Society of the United Kingdom Ltd (c) The Vegetarian Society (UK) Ltd 1979.
I like it because:
1. It has some interesting facts in it which I hadn’t known before I read it. Did you know that Leonardo da Vinci and Tolstoy were veggies?
2. It is a very ‘enthusiastic’ book – which in turns makes me willing to be enthusiastic myself. ‘How should I go about it’ and ‘When shall I try’ elicit some good suggestions.
3. The instructions are very clear. And have pictures! I like pictures. When the day job is full of words, it is good to see pictures as well as words.
In keeping with the theme of the book, here is the Vegetarian Society website.
You don’t have to be vegetarian to enjoy the recipes. Well worth a look. Bright and cheery website. Some good content. Well laid out. Interesting.
